Galaxy S5 Active available with AT&T in Camo Green and Ruby Red
Last week we saw the first appearance of the Galaxy S5 Active, the newest addition to the Galaxy S5 family, in a video leak. Well the device has now been officially released and is available for purchase from AT&T in a whole new range of colors, including a new camouflage motif to match its rough exterior.
It’s quite refreshing to see some new colors coming to the Samsung line of smartphones, other than the usual pristine white and black. Perhaps it is just an AT&T thing. The options on the AT&T website for the devices are Camo Green, Ruby Red and Titanium Gray. Compared to the S5, the design is more rugged and shock, water and dustproof (IP67 & MIL-spec 810G), and has physical buttons for the menu and back functions, in addition to the home button. It also comes with some Active-specific features, like the Activity Zone app, a new function activated by pressing the new Active button on the side of the device to open apps and activity features in one overview, I can imagine like the S Health app but for the outdoors.
Aside from that, the S5 Active is similar to the newest Samsung flagship: the same 16 MP camera, 5.1" Full HD Super AMOLED display and heart rate sensor.
The S5 Active isn’t cheap: it costs 199.99 USD for a 2 year contract, and 714.99 USD off. You also have the option of the AT&T Next installment plan which lets you save 25 USD per month. If you purchase the Galaxy S5 Active, you can get 50 USD off of the Samsung Galaxy Gear Fit, the deal ends on July 24th.
