How to disable camera shutter sound in Google Camera
The new Google Camera is awesome. I am so impressed by it that I think it performs better than thelens blur and post-focus effects found in expensive flagship devices like the HTC One (M8) andXperia Z2, not to mention the Galaxy S5. But one thing I hate about it, and all camera apps generally, is that irritating camera shutter sound. Here's how to disable it.
You may have already guessed there's a simple way and a hard way to do this (which is still dead simple). If you are not rooted, all you can do is mute your device. Not exactly high tech but it works. Not exactly permanent either, as most people aren't likely to have the time to mute their device (or even think about it) when the decisive moment occurs in front of your lens. But if you have root then it's no more complicated than ditching the click file.
If you have root, then I'll assume you also have a root explorer like ES File Explorer or Total Commander (there's install links for them at the bottom if you don't). Now, all you need to do to disable the shutter sound is find the relevant sound file and either rename it or delete it. I prefer to rename it on the off chance I want it back at some point. Keep in mind that in many countries it is technically illegal to not have a camera shutter sound so be warned, but I doubt many police officers are likely to write you a ticket for this kind of infraction.
Ok, so you need to find the following file: camera_click.ogg which is buried in the following path:system/media/audio/ui and then either delete it or rename it. I went for the rather obviousNOT_camera_click.ogg so I can reinstate it if I ever want to. Of course, you can also switch out that sound for another sound file with the same file name – lightsaber anyone?
