LG G3 gold variant leaked and the second sensor explained

A new leak has surfaced of the LG G3, and this time it looks like a gold bar of awesomeness. The LG G3 gold variant in the image shows a bezel and design that leave us water at the mouth. Next to the pure bliss we experience when gazing at the device, the mystery of the additional sensor on the back-facing side now seems to be resolved, but all of course will be known soon enough on May 27th.

First of all, the edge-to-edge display shown in this picture looks great, and we can only imagine that the resolution will land on 2560 x 1440. This is the first time we see the device with this color, but the material has yet to be determined, since it could just be plastic with imitation brushed metal or it could actually be metal. I’m betting on the first option. So far, we’ve seen the LG G3 in white and grey and it said to be water-resistant, IPX7 certified.

Like its predecessor, the LG G2, the G3 is set to have back-facing buttons. But there is something there that the G2 doesn’t have. The extra sensor has caused a bit of confusion: could it be a heart-rate sensor a la Galaxy S5, a second flash or an IR blaster? Apparently, the second rear sensor will serve the purpose of an assist beam, which will lend a helping hand to pictures that are taking in difficult low-lighting situations. This is general problem for smartphones these days, so this would be a good move on LG’s part. The camera is rumored to be of 13 MP and also include OIS+ software, the latest in optical image stabilization.
Here are the specs as rumored so far
OSAndroid 4.4.2 with latest version of Optimus UI
Display5.5-inch QHD display (2560 x 1440 pixels, 534 ppi)
ProcessorSnapdragon 801
RAM3 GB
Internal storage32 GB + microSD
Camera13 MP (back), assist beam on front for OIS, voice commands, action commands to trigger picture, 4K video capture
DimensionsN/A (perhaps 152.6 x 75 x 9.2 like 5.5-inch Oppo Find 7)
WeightN/A, depends highly on material, (perhaps approx. 171 g like 5.5-inch Oppo Find 7)
Battery3,000 mAh
ConnectivityN/A, (presumably 3G/4G, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 3.0, GPS etc)
What do you think of the LG G3 so far? Are you looking forward to seeing the successor to the G2?
