Google Maps update improves offline mode and much more
Google just released a new update
to Maps, with a new way to save maps offline, better navigation features, more accurate filters and information for places around you,
comparisons between different method of transportation times and easier
ways to remember cool places you’ve been and find out more about the
places you want to go.
Lane info and a better offline mode
When using the navigation feature for Maps, it will now notify you of
which lane you should be in, a nice addition that will help you avoid
missing a turn-off. What’s more, it’s now easier to save maps for
offline use. Before leaving to go somewhere that you know will have no
internet, you simply search for the place beforehand and tap your way
into the info sheet for that place. There you should see the option to
‘’save map to use offline’’ and you can even name the offline maps to
something personal for you.
When the last drink is served and the last train leaves
More information and filters have been added when searching for
places to go, whether it is a restaurant, a bar or hotel. This includes
opening hours, ratings, pictures etc. They've also upped the ante for
directions and getting to places with more accurate information, such as
bus departures and the last train home times.
Favorites: places you've been and places you want to go are easier to access
Finally, you can easily save the places you like to go on your
favorites list as long as you are signed in with your Google account.
Just tap on the place card and add a star. This will then be available
across all your devices and PC. What’s more, it’s now easier and more
intuitive to view places you intend on visiting thanks to Street View.
To get to this, tap on the place card and select Street View. This may
not be available everywhere though.
The update (version 8.0) is rolling out to users in stages, but you can already install the APK for the newest version of Google Maps if you can't wait to get some of these new features.
