LG G3 specs confirmed

LG G3 specs confirmed

he specs we've been reporting on for quite some time now.

A month ago I wrote a specs comparison article between the HTC One (M8), Galaxy S5, Xperia Z2, Find 7 and G3, and copped a little bit of criticism because the G3 specs weren't confirmed. Well, that specs table still stands. I mention this not to vindicate myself, but to make the point that the rumored specs have remained quite consistent with the G3, and this latest ''confirmation'' only goes to show that they were pretty much spot on.

Having said that though, I fully expect the battery capacity to be increased in the G3 destined for markets outside Korea. Korean LG devices reportedly come with a secondary battery in the box, hence the smaller capacity. The specs in the slides show a 3,000 mAh battery, the same as that found in last year's precursor, the international variant G2. But the Korean version of the G2 featured a 2,600 mAh battery, meaning it has received a significant bump in the G3. It therefore stands to reason that the international version of the G3 will also receive a decent battery bump, most likely to 3,300 mAh as we had heard previously.

A nice breakdown of the 5.5-inch QHD display. 100% sRGB means accurate, 150% sRGB means over-saturated. one guess who LG is taking a dig at with this slide! / © PhoneArena
Perhaps the most surprising thing about the specs sheet is the absence of a Snapdragon 805 processor, one of the most hoped-for components in the rumored G3. With a 5.5-inch QHD display, the G3 will be pushing more than double the pixels of the G2, so the 805 was expected to be the engine driving that increase in demand. With the 801 already out on several flagship devices featuring Full HD resolution, critics are claiming that the G3 will be laggier if it is using the same processor but much higher resolution than devices like the Galaxy S5 and Xperia Z2.

There are many factors at play here though, including GPU, RAM, processor optimizations and more that are a bit above my head. It seems fair to say though that if LG has indeed opted for a 801 chip that they didn't do it on purpose. I doubt any manufacturer would intentionally put an ''old'' chip into their newest device, especially one that will be superseded in a matter of months. Considering there's no official news from Qualcomm on a release date on the 805, other than an oblique reference to a ''Q2 device'' from way back in January, I guess we'll just have to wait a few more days to see what SoC the G3 comes with and just how well LG has managed to make it work with that display.
What are your thoughts on these specs? What differences do you expect to see in US/int'l versions?
